Abstract: The article provides a short review of the first volume of the five-volume work on typological onomastics by Oleksiy and Olga Sklyarenko. The monograph considers, in the comparative and typological aspects, some universal principles and models of proprial naming with reference chiefly to Ukrainian and American toponymy.
